Child's Play! Lunchtime Concerts for Children - 22 Jun
22 Jun 2018, 12:30 PM - 1:30 PM
Back by popular demand! Join us for an exclusive lunchtime concert series for children, where you and your child can play along with the musicians! Children are welcome to be themselves, crawl or even dance. They can enjoy being exposed to the world of music. Some sessions will feature cambodian music, in conjunction with our current special exhibition, Angkor: Exploring Cambodia's Sacred City, Masterpieces of the Musée national des arts asiatiques-Guimet.
Ending off the concert series with a bang is WEBE - the unabashedly Singaporean trio of Kailin Yong, Felix Phang, and Dawn Wong. Named after a colloquial Hokkien phrase "Wu Eh Bo Eh" (this and that), WEBE was formed to explore unusual sounds made by interesting things.
This concert is suitable for children as young as 6 months. The concert venue would have play mats and some musical instruments your child can try out. All of the music is also carefully chosen to appeal to both babies and adults, and will be performed by professional musicians, ranging from harpists to string quartets. All concerts include a short talk about music and the instruments. At the end of each performance, kids are also encouraged to touch or even try the instruments.
More information about the performances will be updated closer to the date.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who are the performers?
ACM is working together with Play with Mozart to present this series. They specialize in bringing classical music concerts for children (from babies to older children!) - the age group not often encouraged to attend performances at traditional concert halls. Find out more about them here!
My child is very active and sometimes noisy. Is he/ she required to sit still for the duration?
Absolutely not. Children are free to dance and roam about. They can even crawl around and sit right by the performers. Your child is also free to interact with other children - it's really a concert for your child to have fun!
What can I do after the concerts?
This workshop is part of our annual June Holiday school programme, Fun-tastic Friday. This year we're upping the ante with additional interactive character tours and drama workshops. We're also bringing back good old classics like Child's Play - Lunchtime concerts for children, craft activities, and storytelling tours. Entrance to the permanent galleries of the museum will also be free for Singaporeans and PRs.
