Spanish Fantasia 2
19 Aug 2018, 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM
Take a musical trip to Spain with The Philharmonic Winds in Spanish Fantasia 2, a concert to mark the 50th anniversary of relations between Singapore and the Kingdom of Spain.
Conducted by maestro Luis Serrano Alarcon, The Philharmonic Winds will perform music from the ballet El Amor Brujo by Spanish composer Manuel de Falla. Sharing the stage with the wind orchestra are dancers from Flamenco Sin Fronteras, in a choreography by the Flamenco company’s artistic director Antonio Vargas, one of the world’s leading flamenco dancers and choreographers.
Another highlight of the concert is the Asian premiere of a new Concerto for trumpet and wind ensemble by conductor Serrano Alarcon, who is recognised as one of the best wind music composers in the world. Taking the stage for the Concerto is Australian trumpet artist Tristram Williams. Williams was Associate Principal Trumpet of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at age 21, before resigning in 2006 after seven years to concentrate on his solo career and now maintains a busy international career as a leading young soloist, ensemble musician, improvisor and educator.
Other pieces by award-winning composer Serrano Alarcon are Invocación (Revisitando El Puerto) and his Three Sketches for Wind Ensemble, and completing the programme are two classics, El tabor de granaderos (Prelude) by Rupert Chapi and Danza Fantastica no 3 “Orgia” by Joaquin Turina.
Don't miss Spanish Fantasia 2 for a colourful celebration of the best of Spanish music!
