Baybeats 2018: Kyoto Protocol
19 Aug 2018, 8:10 PM - 8:50 PM
Kyoto Protocol is a five-piece rock band from Kuala Lumpur that started out playing in pubs in 2009 and grew to become a tour de force for rock and independent music in Malaysia; in the process helping to pave the way for a wider acceptance of alternative music.
Since their humble beginnings, the band got heads turning and ears listening when they opened for MGMT in their maiden concert on Malaysian soil, subsequently clinching spots at various music festivals, sharing the stage alongside many more international acts. In 2011, Kyoto Protocol received a nomination in the Best New Artist category from the Anugerah Industri Muzik following the success of their EP cheekily titled An Album in the same year. Its lead single Pussycat peaked at No.1 on Hitz.FM’s Malaysian English Top 10, the FlyFM Campur Charts and TraxxFM’s Upstage Charts.
The band consists of lead vocalist and guitarist Fuad, back-up vocalist/keyboard player Gael, guitarist Hairi, bassist Shakeil, and drummer Shan.
