Drum Prodigy Singapore Frame Drummers Ensemble
31 Aug 2018, 7:00 PM - 7:30 PM
The frame drum is among one of the most ancient instruments in the percussion family. It is known by several names across different cultures and communities: the Middle Eastern tar and daf, North African bendir, Irish bodhrán, and Native American-inspired Buffalo drum, are just some of the many examples. Evidence of this instrument has even been found in prehistoric paintings and carvings. While frame drums are often constructed with a round wooden frame, metal rings or bells may also be attached. In a drum-circle setting they are often played with mallets or hands/fingers. They are also called medicine drums, as they are used for healing in some cultures.
The Frame Drum Ensemble is an intergenerational musical group from Drum Prodigy Singapore that performs on traditional frame drums from different cultures. Its members first came together from different backgrounds as a special interest group intrigued by the sound of the drum. Hear the mystical sounds of ancient music from all over the world through this ensemble, which is led by renowned percussionist Shamroz Khan.
