If you think the toy piano is just an toy instrument for kids to play, think again! Pianist Huizi Zhang and composer-pianist Gu Wei will present an evening of contemporary music featuring world premieres by Jun An Chew, Yuting Tan, Kyle Simpson and Gu Wei. Join us and prepare to be enchanted by this unprecedented duo concert of piano and toy piano, as we take you on a journey through childhood and growth.

About Huizi Zhang
Huizi Zhang is an active performer of solo and chamber music in the United States and abroad. She embraces a wide range of repertoire and styles, particularly interested in 21st century music, by giving piano solo premiering concerts at Beijing Concert Hall (China), National Sawdust (Brooklyn, NY), Opera Center America (New York City), N’Namdi Center for Contemporary Art (Detroit, MI), and Carnegie Hall. She earned doctoral degree in Piano Performance at Florida State University, B.M. degree from Central Conservatory of Music and a M.M. degree from University of Michigan with a double degree in Piano Performance and Chamber Music.
About Gu Wei
Gu Wei is a Singaporean composer whose music has been described as having ‘warmth of real splendour…'. Having lived in China, the U.K., the U.S. and Germany, he draws his influences from a wide range of sources and is a composer demonstrating versatility in his style and idiom. His music has been performed all over the world by ensembles such as Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Peabody Symphony Orchestra, Alarm Will Sound and ECCE Ensemble. He is currently pursuing a Doctor in Musical Arts degree on a full scholarship at Peabody Conservatory, where he is also appointed as the Graduate Assistant in Music Theory.
