Blue Ramen comprises of six young jazz enthusiasts who came together through Esplanade’s Mosaic Jazz Fellows jazz mentorship programme. They are back this year with a fresh new setlist inspired by their personal jazz heroes. Together with guest bassist Siheng Teng, they present an eclectic mix of tunes, ranging from original compositions and fresh arrangements of Broadway classics to tributes to American jazz greats such as Max Roach and Wes Montgomery.
About Sarah-Kei LauwWith Grade 8 distinctions in classical piano and voice, Sarah-Kei has performed with the Singapore Lyric Opera Chorus as well as a cappella group Vocaluptuous. Jazz will always remain her first love, and she feels privileged to have had the opportunity to learn under the Mosaic Jazz Fellows jazz mentorship programme. Sarah-Kei is an undergraduate at the National University of Singapore, and a member of the NUS Jazz Band.
About Joshua FrancisEnchanted by the sounds of the blues, Joshua Francis’s journey into the artform begun at an early age, attending jam sessions that unlocked his latent improvisational skills. He draws heavily from other genres such as country, rockabilly, bluegrass, and folk. Joshua has worked on classical and finger-style guitar techniques under the guidance of Remigius Francis. The music of jazz legends Django Reinhardt, George Benson, and Wes Montgomery would later draw him to pursue jazz to further widen his improvisational vocabulary, building upon his already unique approach to the guitar.
About Tete SaxmanPongthipok Soothipong (more commonly known as Tete Saxman) is a jazz enthusiast and saxophonist. Hailing from Thailand, Tete embraces Southeast-Asian culture-at-large and has been living in Singapore for 10 years, where he is currently studying at LASALLE College of the Arts under Greg Lyons. Saxman has participated in Greg Lyons’ Groove Works mentorship programme, performed with Jazz Association of Singapore Orchestra (JASSO) led by Jeremy Monteiro, and is a JASS associate member and active intern at We Love Jazz SG.
About Marius AndrianMarius Andrian is a music enthusiast who is inspired by jazz greats such as Barry Harris, Erroll Garner and Gene Harris. As a pianist, Andrian has performed at Esplanade and SingJazz Academy, and is an alumnus of the NUS Jazz Band. He is thankful for the opportunity to deepen his understanding of music through Mosaic Jazz Fellows.
About Elaine WijayaElaine Wijaya is an aspiring drummer who loves listening to music, and is inspired by Max Roach, Art Blakey, Jimmy Cobb and Philly Joe Jones. Prior to participating in the Mosaic Jazz Fellows jazz mentorship programme, Wijaya has performed with the NUS Jazz Band and the SingJazz Academy in venues including the Blu Jaz Cafe. She continues to learn about music and drumming from her teachers Chok Kerong, James Gunawan and Darryl Ervin.
About Govin TanGovin Tan is a drum enthusiast based in Singapore who has been active as a percussionist in the local scene. As a performer, he is competent with improvisations, versatility and cross-genre collaborations with artists from around the region. He performs as a member of Singapore instrumental world fusion group Flame of the Forest and ethnic experimental group SA the Collective.
About Siheng TengSiheng Teng is a bassist seeking knowledge and excellence in all forms of music, with a strong passion towards jazz. Being familiar with both the upright and electric bass, the music he plays includes genres like funk and soul as well. His versatility has enabled him to work in numerous projects in Singapore with JassYO!, Miss Lou, Louis Soliano, and The Lost Box among others. More details Less details
