The Frey String Trio

The Frey String Trio is a project by jazz violinist Jeffrey Tan to further explore the traditions of jazz violin. The lineup includes Ernest Tay on guitar and Nakano Kenji (JP) on double bass. An ensemble that has always been a crucial part of the jazz violin tradition, the string trio will use this opportunity to showcase music by notable jazz violinists such as Stephane Grappelli (FR), Stuff Smith (USA) and Jean Luc Ponty (FR).
About the artistJeffrey Tan is a jazz violinist and aspiring composer/arranger based in Singapore. Jeffrey started playing the violin at the age of five and has not looked back since. He has played internationally and locally with acts such as award-winning country artist Courtney Conway (AU), local guitar hero Addy Cradle and eclectic music group Flame of the Forest. In Dec 2015, he held his original jazz ensemble showcase at The Substation Theatre. He graduated from the Mosiac Jazz Fellows Mentorship programme in 2016 and continues to explore his own music with jazz group The Frey Quintet and Flame of the Forest.
