Morning Raags: Loving Supplication to the Divine
21 Apr 2019, 9:00 AM - 9:30 AM
Sikh Kirtan - praise of the divine is done in every Gurdwara (Sikh place of worship) and on every occasion. The shabads (verses) have been set to raags by the Sikh Gurus. The raag may set the tone of joy or melancholy; raags relate to the time of day or season or geographical area or a folk tune or the melody of a bird’s song.
Raag Aasa – a morning raag, portrays strong emotions of inspiration and determination to achieve the desires. This raag is distinctive only to Gurmat Sangeet (Sikh Music). A shabad written by Bhagat Kabir, who is revered by many faiths, will be sung in the five centuries-old Raag Aasa by the Youth Jatha of Gurmat Sangeet Academy, Sikh Centre, Singapore. This shabad, by Bhagat Kabir, is part of Guru Granth Sahib (the Sikh Holy Scripture).
This performance is presented by the youth jatha of Gurmat Sangeet Academy, Sikh Centre, Singapore
