The Sacred Feminine: Women and Song in Medieval Europe

21 Apr 2017, 9:15 PM - 9:45 PM

Folk & Singer / Songwriter

From the sublime chants of 10th century mystics, to the wild harmonies of 14th century Ars Nova, La Voix Médiévale presents an enthralling programme of sacred and secular vocal music from Medieval Europe. Incorporating Marian hymns and devotional laude, carols and motets, lullabies and love songs, explore the exultant harmonies of sacred polyphony along with the exuberant songs of the street, convent and court.
Sung in Latin, French, Italian and Middle English, many of the compositions in this repertoire were performed by (some of which were also composed by) women. The pieces express veneration for the creativity and power of the feminine, and together paint a musical portrait of the miraculous and transformative: the Sacred Feminine in the Middle Ages.
