“One day we’ll grow up and nothing will matter in the end.”
Cosmic Child is a five-piece duvet-pop band from Singapore. Heavily influenced by shoegaze bands of the ’90s such as Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine, the band makes use of guitar and synthesiser textures to create lush soundscapes, anchored by strong melancholic melodies that yearn for the comforts of nostalgia. Through their music, Cosmic Child takes listeners on a journey accompanied by loud, fuzzy guitars and wistful vocals.
The band’s debut album, Untitled, is a collection of songs written and released in 2016, centred on the theme of growing up. The album was featured on Bandwagon as one of their favourite Singapore albums in 2016. Apart from supporting shoegaze pioneers Swervedriver during their show in Singapore, the album’s international reach led to tours in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan in 2017. Their single, Girl From Mars, was also included in popular Spotify playlists Indie Shuffle and Singapore’s Top Acts.
Cosmic Child’s sophomore album is due to be released in January 2018 on local record label Middle Class Cigars.
