20 Mar 2018, 7:45 PM - 8:15 PM
About the artist
Dr Namita Mehta grew up in a music loving family in Delhi (India) and started her journey in the world of classical music early in her childhood. She obtained her PhD in Hindustani Vocal Classical at the University of Delhi, and title, Sangeet Alankar, from Gandharva Maha Vidhyalaya. A student of renowned Hindustani vocalist Dr Sandhya Kathavate, Namita doesn’t adhere to the confines of any particular gharana (style) of music; the supporting framework of her musical structure on which she works is that of the agra gharana. She has her own style of elaborating raga, building up slowly from a very low base and gradually reaching the peak, incorporating and displaying a keen sense of aesthetic.
Namita has been involved in various musical performances in India, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia. Her dedication to hindustani vocal music finds another expression in teaching, which she feels enables her to keep the spirit of hindustani vocal music alive, by passing it on to her students from all backgrounds and phases of life.
