Opera Weekend – Two Blind Beggars by Offenbach
25 Mar 2018, 5:15 PM - 5:45 PM
Two “blind” beggars compete for the best spot to busk for money. This leads to a musical battle between Zacharia and Ms Buffles, followed by a game of cards to see who is the blinder one.
Directed by Tan Jia Yee, this mini opera is brought to life by Soprano Phoebe Chee and Tenor Jeremy Koh, with music accompaniment by pianist Jonelle Lim.
About Singapore Pocket Opera Theatre
The Singapore Pocket Opera Theatre (SPOT) is the driving force of opera outreach in Singapore. From a modest team of four, the company has grown to an elaborate team consisting of local classical singers, orchestral musicians, composer, playwright, media artists and volunteers. Since its formation in 2016, SPOT has not only sold out two of three ticketed concerts, but has also reached out to communities with no less than 21 performances at unconventional venues in the heartlands, business centres, shopping districts and gardens. The ensemble has appeared in National Arts Council initiatives, SAF50 Rededication Ceremony, NDP events, performing for members of parliament and ministers.
Appearances abroad include shows in Kuala Lumpur, in collaboration with DAMA Orchestra and in Kuching, where the State-Secretary of Sarawak invited SPOT for another performance.
