Trio Tuesdays – Occasional Oboe Trio
27 Mar 2018, 6:45 PM - 7:15 PM
The rarely heard oboe trio is presented here with a contemporary take (MacMillan) that focuses on the tonal spectrum of the instrument, sandwiched by two original works (Krommer and Beethoven) from around 1800, which were probably written for the casual entertainment of the European bourgeois. This performance will take advantage of the wonderful acoustics of the Concourse, which amplifies the modern polyphony of MacMillan’s writing, as well as offer an opportunity for visitors to experience the unique sound of an oboe ensemble.
Krommer – Rondo from Trio in F major for two oboes and cor anglais
MacMillan – Intercession for three oboes
Beethoven - Variationen über 'Là ci darem la mano', WoO 28 for two oboes and cor anglais
Occasional Oboe Trio
The Occasional Oboe Trio consists of three oboists of different nationalities, namely Howard Ng (Malaysia), Leow Rui Qing (Singapore), and Hu Qiuzi (China), who all received their tertiary education at the top musical institutions in Singapore and beyond. The tradition of composing and performing oboe trios began in the late 18th century in Europe, and the trend was prevalent for half a century before going into obscurity. The Occasional Oboe Trio aims to bring this repertoire to the Singaporean public, raising awareness on the wonderful timbre of instruments from the oboe family.
