Behind The Shelves
15 Mar 2018, 8:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Folk & Singer / Songwriter
The Music Parlour and The Diarists present Behind the Shelves, a singer-songwriter live studio recording showcase.
Behind the Shelves is a collaborative effort between The Music Parlour and The Diarists to showcase a line-up of fresh-faced singer-songwriters from The Diarists Open Mic Sessions and carefully curated acts from The Music Parlour’s studio jams, presented in an open and honest setting fit for music appreciation, with the audience giving the artists their due undivided attention. Keen listening ears and a fitting environment are what The Diarists constantly seek for our promising young musicians. The Music Parlour, an intimate jamming and recording studio tucked away in Peninsula Shopping Center, will provide just that.
Behind the Shelves, the first of our ongoing studio recording sessions will be held at The Music Parlour quarterly, on the last Thursdays over the next few months.
On 15 March session, we are proud to present:
Masbro is an instrumental guitar duo that combines layers of spritely melodies and intricate technique with hard rocking energy, in an earnest attempt to make music worthy to that of a respectable math rock band.
Kyla T is a 21-year-old R&B/Soul singer-songwriter whose RnB and electronic pop inspired tunes and introspective lyrics on self-identity and mundane life draw parallels to 21st century millennial living.
Azmyl Yunor (MY)
The only Malaysian underground music artist to have a musical theatre staged about his journey as a troubadour (2013's "Something I Wrote" directed by Mark Teh), Azmyl Yunor has dabbled in folk rock, punk, free-form instrumentals and experimental noise rock for the past two decades. Although widely known as a singer-songwriter, he is also the founding member of several seminal underground bands. Informed by the DIY punk ethos & philosophy, he has been releasing recordings independently since 1997 and has also published research writing on music subcultures, moral panics & cultural politics while hosting his own radio show on alternative country music in between his busy schedule. A truly independent spirit, he abides by his own rules and lives by the late gonzo journalist Hunter S. Thompson's maxim "When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro." His most recent release, 2017's ampang park EP, is a paean to memory, places, and modernity.
